Journal Pondering it all…

A lot of growth in the last two months:

75% plants now so guess we’ve finally hit heavily planted. Some species swamped and succumbed to the rampant growth habits of others. Floaters doing well for themselves:

Bucket after bucket of trimming back each week to stop the growth onto the lawn. The pond is only running on fish waste this year.

Shubunkin’s grown too:

They’ve bred and so far counted fifteen young about 2” in length. The season continues to have pleasant weather and temps here so plenty of time to get them grown before winter.

Still love the pond every day a year on, so no regrets doing this project.

Hi all,
The plant going rampant at the back is the Myriophyllum?
There is an Umbellifer (with the white flower) on the left, and Brooklime (Veronica beccabunga) on the right (and the left).

Assuming the umbellifer is the one in this photo? It is Oenanthe japonica.

Thank you @dw1305 🙏🏽

Finally got a yellow lily flower 🙌🏼
Nice lily, do you know the cultivar name?

You might struggle to get many waterlily flowers with that much surface agitation. They flower better in calm conditions and particularly don't like getting the floating leaves submerged or splashed with water. It is a very nice pond, but if you want regular waterlily flowers I think you are overdoing it with the multiple airstones in addition to the already decent flow from the filtration. It wouldn't hurt to dedicate one end to calm water and grow the waterlilies at that end, there would still be plenty of oxygen for the shubunkins.

There’s one main distributor of large pond lily in the UK, can’t remember the genus or species. Anyway, they label them by colour and had a dozen or so white but no yellow flowers appear so far this season. Was beginning to think they mislabelled them as should have yellow and white in there.

Indeed all correct 👍🏽 We live very close to the River Great Ouse so herons are ever present and plenty of crows. So far the surface agitation appears to have kept them safe when neighbours ponds in the area have suffered frequent loses. It could just be sheer luck but it’s sort of, if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.
