Taiwan Bee not so nano

Been a while since updating on tanks so here we go.
Last year I finally broke down the 120 paludarium and gave it to @taistrietman who immediatley and apparently effortlessly, grew in a stunning jungle (previously posted image attached)
So this is the only tank for now until we finish a soft refurb of the downstairs then I feel a new 90 could be on the cards, high tech and maybe even a competition entry 🤔

But for now this continues to entertain me and takes almost no time, still on weekly top ups, 3 monthly water changes and 6 monthly trims. The shrimp breeding is very slow and the population has dwindled to double digits so will up water changes and probably introduce some new genes in the coming months to get them going again during spring.

The ficus is bonkers, you can see in the first image and it has enveloped the garden door some 7 or 8 metres away and requires weekly trimmings to maintain access to the door and stopping it growing over the windows!
Happy days, happy scaping.

Looks awesome Iain! Those Congo's look beautiful, are they still juveniles? And that fiscus must be some sort of record! Does it get all of its nutrients and water from the tank?

Cheers Gareth, yes, Tai got the Congo's when really pretty small but suprising how quickly they have grown.
The ficus pretty much is the filter, when i forget to add ferts the ficus quite quickly starts dropping leaves. Its pretty annoying, as you may be able to see, once it drops leaves it never regrows on that part again leaving bare spots. Thankfully new tendrils? vines? or what ever they are called, generally fill the gaps in a few months. Folks are always suprised when they see me running the hoover over the wall to remove any dead leaves before they drop! Its also apparently spider paradise!!

@Iain Sutherland Great tank! Quick question: Do you do anything to keep the Bee shrimp population in check. The Bee shrimp population in my shrimp tank is completely out of control.. The tank is densely planted as well, and there are just no way I could net a meaningful amount to give away to my LFS without wreaking the tank.

Cheers,
Michael

No they will regulate themselves, I guess based on food availability. Certainly my experience has been that they boom and bust a fair bit, possibly in part due to my intervention as far as feeding and maintenance. If I had to guess I'd say my tank which is 100ltrs maxed out around 400/500 even with feeding before a crash.

When populations were really high and I was selling a hundred or so every few months I just put the net in the tank, wait 2 minutes and they volunteer 😅
