Nice architecture. What’s it like inside John?
I didn't get the chance to find out Tim, it was closed.
Only here for a 2 day visit but should hopefully get some free time during the day tomorrow to have a peek inside.

Somewhere in France?
Sorry foxfish, only just seen this.

Yes it's an old fortified town in Western France. Didn't have much time for sight seeing, was there to sign off an automated welding machine at Lincoln Electric who have there French manufacturing headquarters in this location.
Used to be SAF/Air Liquide site before Lincoln bought the welding division a few years ago.

I built a new kite and go it up in the air last night. It flew well.

This design is based on traditional Japanese multi-line bridle Edo kites, but with modifications including pretty small (22" X 38" sail) size, simplified bridle configuration and the round vents.

Just stumbled upon this picture from earlier in the year and as they aren't widespread, and are cute, i thought i'd post it.

I know they aren't a native but i'm fond of them and we saw over 50 individuals on this day. The picture is taken at Buckenham Marshes in Norfolk which is a great place for birds in the winter as it has a raised path, so you can see for miles over the marshes. It is the place to be if you want to see marsh harriers and last year we saw a stunning display of a Peregrine bombing hundreds of lapwing, like a baitball being attacks by swordfish.

this was on the way back to where the Jackdaw murmuration takes place

*I've only seen Chinese Water Deer once, in Bedfordshire / Buckinghamshire at the reed beds that used to be a brick works. (It was a Heidelburg / Hanson "Quarry Life" event, so may have been <"Linford Lakes Nature Reserve"> and a gravel pit, not a brick works)

They really are ridiculous, not only the eyes and teeth, but their coat look like an under-stuffed teddy bear and they run as if their legs are springs.

Muntjac?

Luckily no one spotted, or was to kind not to mention that for some bizarre reason I put the peregrine was attacking a flock of ospreys, which would be quite a sight, rather than lapwings or peewits as them call them here.

Those chinese deer can certainly run at speed. The raised path surrounding the marshes means you get a view of the whole area and they run fast for a long time. They have made it to our local broad near the centre of norwich now.

We have muntjacs to, they sometimes walk down our road. I see them most weeks when walking the dog and they had a family down our allotments where they enjoyed our squash and jerusalem artichokes (which they are welcome to).

Too polite to mention it, I was wondering about Ostriches, but Lapwings makes a lot more sense.

They, about 5 or 6 deer, ran towards the building we were in, it had a big picture window, looking out over a ditch, reed bed and wet field. It was about this time of year and just getting dark. Some-one saw them in the distance and pointed them out and they ran towards us across the field, and then sideways along the far side of the ditch, right in front of the window.

We got a really good view of them and they were just ridiculous (in a good way). Nearest I can get is equal parts Paddington, a Wallaby and Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout (for older readers)
