All That Remains - Take II

Yellow Cons have been digging a few pits in the sand. Female hovering over them, hopefully some eggs soon.
They are still dark green and dont show much yellow coloration nowadays. The colours in the females dorsal eyes are sooo Bright, red, yellow, orange, green, red, blues etc

The pair are doing a good job of guarding them and fending off the other fish and the other pair. I have placed a slate sheet behind the eggs, so that there is more cover for them

Moved the eggs into a breeder. Couldn't find the ziss, so just used a marina breeder.
Put some foam in the base as it's slatted base. And moved one of the air sponges, so that the outlet pours into it.

Setup another cave for the female using an old glass ice-cream bowl and stacked slate around it.
She has accepted it and is dancing for the male.

The other pair are interested so will set one up for them aswell.

No more eggs layed, but males are more colourful which is a good sign.
Need to thin the platy numbers again so will be catching them out over for a while.
Cant seem to have any luck with Male Rams again, such a weak fish now.

such a weak fish now
That is what I have been told by a fish shop owner I find generally accurate.

The 'mess' of modern live bearing fish is embarrassing compared to the clean lines on the 1960s and 70s. As a kid, a brood I submitted, for a show, came second, wagtail lemon platies, they didn't win because one fish I had selected didn't have the clear black lips demanded, but lovely clear bodies and fully black fins, my local fish shop paid me good pocket money for them. Others I left at home that day did have clear black lips! Now, in most shops the individual tanks of live bearers are just a jumble of colours and shades and often so small.

yeah they really are. The males always get tumors around their heads and just die. Has happened for the last few times i have tried to keep them.
Agree with the livebearers, they are just shoved together and all genes mixed up.

I remember the 1st pair of the japanese blue endlers to be sold years ago went for over £200 and then was seeing them for £1 each a few years later. Now they have been line bred into lots of additional colours and traits.
Same with most of them nowadays, the original strong characteristics are now sooo diluted.
