All That Remains - Take II

All of the Rainbows were out at the same time when letting Dumdum out for a wee, So took a few pix.
Looks a bit messy after a big trim of the guppy grass.
I've rehoused the scissor tails etc, looking for something else. Was thinking about emporer tetras in the differing color morphs. I really like the blue and purple along with standard or blacks.

Been trying to get some pix of the super chonky puffers, but they zoom off when I'm near.

Rainbow cichlids are really under rated. When they get fired up the orange in them is so intense. I’m guessing they’re fine with plants @Gill ? I haven’t had them for years but I’m sure they ate anything I put in with them.

They Really are, I got them as they were look great when they are in display/sparring colours.
Yeah they are fine with plants, they do like to try and move the decor a bit though. And push the Seed Pods around.
Haven't had any issues with them tbh, they keep to themselves in the areas they have carved out and dug down into. And see them at feeding and the occasional spar between the males. They don't bother with any of the smaller cichlids in there at all.

Since its pay day for me, I've Ordered a mix of emperor tetras and upped the number of torpedo barbs.

Murder beans were out and I quietly took a few pix.
Just look how chonky the females are, you can spot the male hovering in the background.
Not had them looking this nice in a long time, but there are soooooo many snails in here it keeps them very well fed.
And the YoYo well fed also.

Cories have been spawning on the glass in the mornings, but eggs are gone within a few mins. The Cardinals are devouring them quickly.

Got a few types of Pothos, going to train them up to grow up the lighting rig.

The new tetras have come and very impressed with the quality of them from riverpark. Not a bad size on them and nice and full bellys.
The contrast between the standard emperors and the super blue, purple and black looks great when they are all in one group. Will look even better as they mature and develop the longer finnage etc.

One of the Rope fish was out exploring and just about caught it,before it slithered away back into the guppy grass corner.
Getting much bigger, as they were teeny when I got them.

Have added some more plants, was doing a topup shop in Aldi. And had a look in the house plants section. Picked up a nice Peace Lilly and another fern type.
Have added them to a few areas along the rim. Will have a peruse whenever i do the shop and add more as i see them.

Your tank looks open top. How do you stop the rope fish from climbing out?
Plenty of floating plants, and they are ok. They spend most of their time among the dense guppy grass corner on the back left. And only see them every so often. There should be 2 in there, but who knows. Haven't found anything dried up.

The last time I had them was when my son was a toddler. Then there was not enough cover for them, and one made it from the the kitchen half way up the stairs before it succumbed.

... and one made it from the the kitchen half way up the stairs before it succumbed.
I wonder where it was going?!

I wonder where it was going?!
No Idea, why it did that.
It made it thru the kitchen 25 feet 10 ft from the tank in the kithen extension.
the hall is 15 ft and then another 8ft up the stairs. So made quite the journey.

When I had Hermit Crabs a few years ago, the biggest one managed to climb up and lift off the lid. Made it all the way downstairs and was living behind the kitchen cupboards for a week or so before mum caught it. She sat in the kitchen waiting for it to come out with some shrimp as a lure. She was not impressed with me that day. funny story though.

The Emperor Scorpion did not impress either when that escaped a very very very long time ago, that lived amongst the house plants when i had the big 5*4*3 tank in the conservatory. Mum dispatched that quickly when she saw that scuttling about.

x1 more nano setup on my Desk, as sorted that area out this week. And a nano setup for a Mantid, that ill be getting over the weekend after AquaH at Stonleigh tomorrow.

Pufferfish are spawning. Males have been chasing the females for a few days heavily.
Just seen them in the guppy grass corner, one of the males headbutting a female in the side. And then spawning amongst the grass. Not that anything will hatch as the shrimp live there. And will consume any eggs.

Sat in the kitchen watching the tank.
Observing the males trying to court various females.
Emperor tetras aren't fussed who they display to, as long as are the female tetra.
Pearl males trying to dance for the females, who are now looking egg bound. So will have to purge them with peas etc.
Cories, well they spawn most days chasing the plump females up and down the glass.
Cichlids, well the Yellow Convicts are still a dark green atm, not much yellow in them for now. They are always showing off to each other. And then darting back under cover.

The Rainbows, I did loose one of the males, he was pretty beaten up. And an otto, but it did look old.

I topped up the snail 🐌 populations as the loaches do eat alot of them. And they are very plump atm.

Twisted vallis has made a comeback, and sending out lots of runners into the foreground. Which I'm undecided 🤔 on.

I ma take out a few of the dinosaur skulls. As not liking how some of them look. Prob one of the dragon heads and a larger Trex peice.

One of the UGF uplifts burps every so often, not sure why. Will have to check that out. And see what's wrong with up.

Added a maidens hair fern aswell. So hoping that grows in well.

Cons were just out at feeding time, following the cories while they were spawning. To gobble the eggs up.
Their colours have really come on recently. And they get these very very bright eyes that appear in their Dorsal fins which look very cool to watch being displayed. Didn't manage to capture that.
Now more yellow cheeked, they remind me more of sajica atm.

The Halfbeaks have all but vanished. Can only see one chunky female that patrols the surface snatching aphids. and the occasional fly that dares to land.
Im currently pulling out the Java fern as clogged with hair alfae atm. Been leaving in a bowl of clean water and then rinsing and pulling it all out. The shrimp love the algae to graze in, but is unsightly.
Im also only using the Fluval3 as the only lighting. Forcing the stems to grow up towards it.

Yellow Con pair has formed and they are digging a pit in the front left corner under the guppy grass. it is shielded by one of skulls. So hopefully will be able to get some pix of them etc in a while. Dont want to spook for now.
