Just bought a pair of these for my tank. I have hard southern water I cut with 60% rain water. Been in for a week and seem pretty happy.
Had never heard of them before but Greg at ADC swore by them and said they were his favourite fish and said they would be fine in my water (I've been going...
Very interesting read - thank you Chris.
I've just un boxed my 601 and the Mrs hates it - she's complaining it's far too bright. It also doesn't help that its higher over the tank than my last light. So I'm either going to have to return it and go back to the drawing board, move my tank (which...
Amazing hardscape - best I've seen for a while.
Very impressed with the way you've achieved the look of your initial inspiration picture / idea.
Inspirational!
Hi Viktor,
While we're all using your lighting expertise have you ever used the Elos E 3?
http://www.elosaquarium.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=159
To me its the sleekest & sexiest (although I've never seen it in the flesh).
I've long been debating with myself about...
I'm still on the look out for a decent LED for my 60P that looks stylish and isn't just an ugly lump of plastic.
My favourites by far are the Elos Elite 3 & 3L but the price is frankly ridiculous once you factor in the other bits you need for it. I'm still leaning towards an Aquasky but I'm...
Those steel pipes are elusive buggers unless you want to buy the ADA ones. I ended up buying some Borneo Wild pipes from Asia - worked out about £100 for them including the postage I think http://www.gcshop-sg.com/product.php?pg=0&cata=9&cate=-1
They cant be expensive to make I can't believe...
Thanks Andy - not quite what I was after. I never got the bushes in each corner I wanted + I kept adding rocks on the right. New rocks are much more interesting...
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the interest. I never finish a journal!!
I fiddled too much and it started to look a bit ragedy. Final shot here:
I have new rocks in there now - similar set up. When it starts looking better I'll whip up a couple of photos.
Thanks
Phil
Sorry for the lack of updates but its been busy and I've just been about to keep up with the water changes.
It's nice to have people asking about it though!!
Still no tree. maybe at xmas when I get more time and headspace to do more than the water changes.
Sorry for the poor photos. iphone...
So I wanted to resurrect this thread as its one of my favourites if not THE favourite and I was reminded of it after browsing Flipboard:
Incredible Underwater Park in Austria - My Modern Metropolis
But in truth its really for all you diorama lovers out there.
I think my next scape will have...
Good point - I've actually been using a turkey baster to suck out the excess water at the bottom - the angle idea could work though - I may give it a go although the aquacube sits snugly in its base
If you work for a company that is VAT registered you could give him their VAT number and get him to invoice them c/o you and then you wont have to pay the VAT. Thats what I was going to do....
Hi Nath,
The cheapest the 3L would work out is €696 + VAT! I was talking to them a while ago but thought it was just way too expensive. although still considering saving up as they do look beautiful!
You can contact them direct ELOS PR Manager <pr@elos.eu> and its actually Filipe Oliveira...
The ADA 602 does look good and Im considering if I can get my hands on one, but if moneys no object I think the Elos lights look amazing:
E lite3 > Illuminazione > ELOS
3L or 3S
I have an UP PRO-Z LED which does the job and doesnt look too bad, but lusting after the ADA or Elos.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for that. I think I'll wait another week or so and get it flooded.
I'm not planning on injecting CO2 though, I was going to try the old school method of using a carbonated water mix. Its also too small for fish but I could probably stick some shrimp in. Amanos are just sooo...
Another quick update.
Its nearly a month and the DSM is working, the HC looks like it has trebled at least. I've also added in some Eleocharis SP Mini in a few spots to hopefully give it a natural feel . I may still add a little bush or two of mini pellia when I flood it.
I'm not quite sure...
Ha Thomas your too kind! I was a few glasses down I believe.
But yes I totally understand that these scapes people are labeling as 'dioramas' aren't to everyone's taste but I think people are kidding themselves if they think that 'nature aquariums' are from a totally different place, to me it...
Quick update.
DSM started with HC cuttings from my main tank
As mentioned previously I've been contemplating adding a tree or two to complete the setting and I amateurishly made a couple of trees from manzi twigs and some bonsai type wire
Tree position 1
Tree position 2...
It was just some cheap superglue I had laying around. I simply pulled out the wood patted it down with some kitchen roll added the glue and fiss and bobs your uncle. I know exactly how you're feeling - I was the same, but once you've done it you'll see. The only thing to watch is that its all...
Tie it with cotton or super glue it on - both work well. I was nervous about using glue but it works and doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect's.
Hey Paulo thanks for the input, definitely more food for thought... I've already placed in some HC to try DSM with so I'll try and update with some pics tonight + take a few pics with tree to get a general vibe from everyone on that.
mini pellia would definitely bush well - I may see if Darren...
HI Tim,
Thanks for the input. I'm wondering if pogostemon would be too big for the scale although I've noticed that quite a few pico scapes seem to include it. Definitely something to consider.
Cheers,
Phil
Small update time.
So I've had to fiddle (as is my prerogative) and I've tried to make the branches into tree's by adding all the fissidens to the branches - this is still a work in progress as I ran out of fissidens so looks a bit patchy but Im sure you can see what I'm trying to achieve. I'm...
Ha! you're all way too kind.
The scaping part is the easy part (and the most enjoyable). Growing the plants is what I always have trouble with!! Saying that I'm going safe with plants I know I can grow...
I've just made some tree's out of random bits of manzi wood that I'll stick in situ to...
This is something I've been wanting to do for quite a while now, but not had the stones to make the steps - I've tried all sorts with varying degrees of success, but have recently found some miniature dry stone thats meant to build model walls etc from (I'm sad I know)...
I guess the idea of...
Great tank - very clean. It looks like an instant winner, as if you've managed to create an amazing tank effortlessly...
I'm even more impressed with the man cave though - I'm totally jealous!!
I also see you have an Aquasky on your other tank in the cave - where did you manage to get that...
I'm no LED expert so the I'm the wrong person to ask!
I have only ever used LED's since I've been in the hobby and all I can say is it does the job for me!
Its an UP LED from Tankscape:
UP PRO-Z 36cm 12x LED Hanging Plant Light
It was only meant as a temporary measure until I upgraded, but its doing the job fine and looks pretty unobtrusive. I'm still hoping one day to get a Elos E-Lite 3 S or 3L but they are just so expensive its hard to...
Update time.
So this is about 6 weeks in
Initial plant list:
Blyxa Japonica
Riccardia chamedryfolia
Fissidens
Flame moss
Riccia
HC
Hemianthus micranthemoides
I've also just added in Juncus Repens and Rotala macrandra green + a couple of larger pads of riccia
Taking the lead from...
Agree with most above.
For your current problem start pulling them out and selling them or donating them here there are always people looking for them.
Thanks for the interest!!
It's been planted around a month but I'm not sure about my plant choice so I'm adding some more this week rightly or wrongly - some stems at the back as it feels a little bare at present.
In theory I should let the plants grow in but its been very slow and...
Thanks Ady for the encouragement. Very helpful indeed.
The wood has been back in for a day or so & it's staying - The more I look at the scape and believe me I've been looking at it a lot the more I think your all right. So it's been we'll worth me posting!
More food for thought on the plants...
Hi Tim,
Thanks. I did take out a bit on the left its a lovely piece but just felt a little crowded.
I know what your saying re centralised its been bugging me & ive tried various bits if wood to counteract this but nothing felt right + the Mrs doesn't agree & likes it as is.
I'm hoping one...
Not too much plant advice forthcoming from anyone else ;(
Despite this lack of input I'm pressing ahead and I guess I can always change plants if the aren't working, after all buying plants is half the fun!
So I've added in the substrate had a slight re-arrange and I'm now itching to plant...
Thanks guys.
HC is definitely going in and I'd like some of it to trail down the rocks like I've seen in some of Stu's tanks. I have plenty of mini pelila too, so this will go in.
I think I'll initially go for what I have which is moss, mini anubias etc.
What do you think of the main wood...
I've only had nano's so far and after collecting a few I've finally had the planning permission to go larger and thanks to Andy I'm now a proud owner of a 60P + accoutrements.
Anyway I've been planning my layout for a while; basically bringing the rock together from 2 nano tanks + on the...
Only just picked up this thread.
Come on Iain lets be 'avin you. I can't wait to see some pics.
I'm also desperate to see some of his NA gear for sale in the UK and know the prices.
Best to pm Jur4ik I bought mine just as he was starting to make them, so no idea what price he is selling them for - he will probably do you a deal on 3 too...
I agree I can't believe there aren't far more out there.
Jur4ik will be able to help you with the info. Its been ample on my 20l Dennerle. I have a feeling he will adjust the light for your size of aquarium. They aren't that cheap but they are well worth the money, especially considering they...
They're very good looking; reminiscent of the light for the Tropica Aquacube which is my favourite looking nano set up.
pm Jur4ik - he makes and sells them.
Hey Sean
Very nice - I'm going to follies this closely as I'm about to embark on a 60p and I'm looking for inspiration.
Where did you get the Aquasky from? Still struggling to source a reasonably priced pretty light!
Cheers
Phil
Has anyone had any experience of these units?
They are the best looking light units I've seen and I'm thinking of going for the 3s on a new 60p
3s:
http://www.elos.eu/productlines/lighting/e-lite3~19/e-lite3s~91.html#.UYYY74I3R4t
or 3l...
I've thought about it before Mike - I was looking at steel half drain pipes and ends, but I can do ideas just not action!
Anyone seen these in the flesh?
prelos | Elos Blog | Page 2
I agree with Martin. Definitely better in tank with the tiles but the Solar wins on style.
As a general rule I'd pay more money for style & substance - a difficult thing to find in the aquarium lighting world
I went for a Juri made LED unit for my nano & I love it.
There seems to be far...
Just measured my space and I think it has to be a 60p for me. The TMC 45 depth is too much. The 60p 30 depth is perfect although the36 in height feels too high?
I've had a TMC tile a bit bulky & ugly for me. There still seems to be a lack of clean & beautiful light options. I'm thinking Aquasky...
I love these tanks & grabbed one on eBay for a bargain. I've had it in storage for months but after a recent move the mrs let me set it up in the utility room.
Not an ideal place but I'm hoping it will impress her enough once it's grown in. Currently going DSM on mine & all going well pics...
Definitely interested to see the next phase. I think the trimming and plant care is often an after thought but makes the difference from a good tank to a stunning tank...
lets be 'avin you!
Very interesting.
That guys on something for sure! He often gets written off due to his penchant for novelty scapes but he has some impressive skills and I can't but help liking whatever he does as they are always interesting and often amusing
I'm very late to this party but an amazing journal George (as to be expected), it's got to be the best I've read for a while, mainly due to everyone pitching in with thoughts, advice and even tomatoes!
Very interested in the yogurt DSM comments - keep meaning to try some DSM moss stones and...
Looks great I'm totally jealous. I've got an aquacube sitting in a box unused too - your inspiring me to pull it out. I've never been able to convince the mrs that I should be allowed another tank though.
I must say I love the look of the aquacube - I can't believe they stopped making them...
If your in the US then try these guys, the Archaea lights are pretty cool and inexpensive:
http://www.adana-usa.com/index.php?main ... 9og2agroq0
I've shipped a nano led from them to the UK - it did make it rather expensive...
If you like some then look on ebay for something similar from the...
this is the winner:
http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalo ... CEMQ8wIwAA
I actually have one - doh! not been using heaters over the summer so its hidden away.
I've been there once and was amazed at the shop itself - all overgrown like its very own jungle! If I lived close I'd be in all the time - he had mosses that he didnt know what they were!
Definitely worth the trip, especially if your a plant freak rather than a fish freak. For the fish freaks...
Lots of people have those Pets @ Home ones.
I have a 20l Dennerle with the small internal filter - love the tank and the filter is very shrimp safe and very good. A1 Matt recommended it and he keeps plenty of shrimp
I've originally had a Migninon HOB but felt it spoilt the aesthetics.
there...
Re: Any Bristolians could collect an eBay item and post for
I've just done the same for something on eBay & used inter parcel.co.uk - v easy & leaves little for the seller to do
Re: 120 x 55 x 55cm planted... Home alone
Mark your scapes are always lovely and this is no exception + a journal with helpful tips too!
Always something to aspire to here.
Stu is correct re the ADA stuff.
I have bought a light off them in the past though. They are pretty helpful but it took ages to sort it out and the shipping kinda made it slightly pointless. But hey great shop!
This is currently my favourite plant and I'm planning a new scape where I would like lots and lots of this as the main feature.
However I've bought this twice now from a couple of different and very reliable sources. Both batches had hair algae or some a similar type of hairy algae and try as I...
Hi Chris,
Thanks - it kind of is - I got rid of the small set and now have an FE.
I actually think my solenoid is buggered as it seems to decide not to come on and then does etc. also I emptied my FE in 2 weeks on my Fluval Edge so I think its just rubbish and I should replace. I'm currently...
My monthly update on my cheeky day off…
Firstly I need to say the Mrs hates this layout and is pinning for me to go back to a jungle style scape, so I've really been wanting to see some great growth to make it look amazing and keep her off my back. Although the bonus is she's been scrawling...
Re: Ryuoh lagoon - (PLANTED UP + FAUNA SELECTION)
Lovely! Shaping up amazingly Nath - fully impressed and jealous of your mini - have only seen it in the US before.
Are you planning on adding small stones or moss rocks on the boarder of your path? That's going to be a bugger to maintain...
I keep coming back to this scape for inspiration, so I thought I'd comment to bring it up again for others that may have missed it.
It's easy to miss with such simple planting but the scale on the rock work just blows me away every time
Nelson your a more patient man than me!
Re: Rob's 300L (to be named)
The suspense on your journal is killing me Rob!
Desperate to see some pics of what you have planned.
Your going to be spoilt for choice on the wood for a start - forget the rocks manzi only tank!
As usual some amazing scapes to aspire to! Congrats to everyone who entered and rated in the top 200.
For us mere mortals we can live through you guys vicariously and but dream!
Indeed! I've gone for some big bold rocks and an incredible bit of manzi - just struggling to get the manzi in as we speak (need to get the saw out).
If you do keep it I have some perfect manzi bits for you - just received my new shipment with nano branches from Tom. I'm still debating on...
I'm interested in this as well as I've been fancying some lily pipes for a while. Just one more expense though...
How about the E700 thats free with the subscription with PFK this month? Thoughts on that?
Ha thanks but I've recently rescaped. I loved the shale too but the up-keep became very tiresome.
Basically it was a hill of amazonia held back with plastic strips and then some thin slate acting as a wall with piles of the shale leading into congo sand so most of the plants were planted into...
Thanks guys. I love number 2 it's quite fluffy and soft in comparison to most. I'll try for another photo.
I've never had pearl but wanted to so heres hoping!
Only just had spiky but it's not been in my tank so definitely more likely flame although I have a lot of that & it looks different...
