Scarlet badis female?

Hi, I finally managed to locate somewhere selling Scarlet Badis near enough to me and I tried to buy a pair but I'm not sure if I was lucky to get a very rarely spotted female or not??

From my research online, including on here, it seems that females don't have any stripes or red colouration and I can't see any on this one but I'm not sure so thought I'd ask...

Any opinions or thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hard to tell - I have some females, and they are notably plumper in body shape than the males that are leaner but deeper bodied, also the females dorsal fin doesn't seem as prominent.

Yours looks like a small male that hasn't coloured up yet, to me. That said, I'm far from an expert and could be miles off. @louis_last has bred them (and supplied me with mine) and might know - though he's not around here much these days.

Does the female (or male even) Dario dario have a black mark at the anterior base to the dorsal fin? I know male Dario hysginon do.

I still haven't seen one in the flesh, as far as I know. I have a perfect tank waiting for them, should I ever find a pair.

I did have a look through - I'm still unsure, but leaning towards probably a male that hasn't coloured up yet. Time will tell I guess!

Does anyone know of any other sources for female scarlet badis? I was too slow with tropco. I don't want to name and shame suppliers but keep getting sent sub-dominant males even when they say they have both sexes!

I'm thinking about breeding mine again and might have some fry available in the future but I don't have any spare females right now. WIldwoods were sold both males and females quite recently so it might be worth asking them.

Actually for anyone that might be reading this that's suffering with the struggle to find female scarlet badis I do have a very healthy spare guaranteed male/female pair I can part with, for free, to a good home but it would need to be by collection only on the roseneath peninsula near glasgow or alternatively I could meet someone at glasgow or helensburgh train station.
I'm not willing to ship a single pair as it's awlays been a total nightmare dealing with couriers.

Update: I think I have had luck from River Park Aquatics. Before purchase I asked if they had male and female and they advised they thought so. I ordered 6 scarlet badis and asked for a mixture of male and female. I think out of the 6 I received 1 female, 3 Sub-dom males and 2 dominant males (bright red, not pictured). 1 of the sub-dom passed during quarantine, it arrived with a sunken stomach. I also ordered 6 tiger darios and am not 100% certain but may have received 1-2 females.
