Hi mate, great idea tabk wise I have the bigger brother. Love them.

Could you let us know what of any ferts your dosing, are you using co2 either liquid or pressurised, how much lighting you have and for how long during the day. And also flow wise.
It could be any of these not helping if not sufficient enough. Leaves rotting from the base sounds like co2 and flow to me.
Also some of the echinodorous plants in the tank appear to be in their emmersed form so will be adapting and losing their old leaves.

Get root tabs for the swords, there leave will probably melt, they were probably grown emersed, should be fine in a few weeks though.

Hello,
This is an indication that you have poor CO2 and/or flow distribution. While some die back can occur after flooding the tank, widespread rotting means that fundamentally your execution of CO2 is weak.

Cheers,

were did you buy your plants from some some plants are grown above water some are grown below water

if your plants supplier has plants that have been grown en above water they will die back before take as the plants is use to breathing Co2 from air its now got to convert to underwater plant

You may find they all melt back before taking

For this reason always use specialists company someone like Plants alive or java-plants and i never buy plants from ebay

Not sure about how there growen. i know that they both import there plants weekly and dont grow there own. but ive never had any plants melt on me when buying from a decent supplier all the plants ive broought from plants alive and java-plants have all gone on to make nice mother plants

All the plants i got off ebay have all melted and dyed within weeks

Just wanted to add that while I'm a fan of Juwel tanks and think the provided filters are great for filtration, I really don't think they provide enough flow for a planted tank and wouldn't get to all areas of the tank. So as well as dealing with any CO2 issues I'd think about getting a small powerhead or something. I've actually been looking at koralia's and cheaper look alikes and there's this one at the mo' I'm thinking about getting myself for my vision 450: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140657738793? ... 1438.l2649

Its an unknown quantity as far as quality is concerned but for less than £7 inc P&P it might be worth a try?

Hi guys Co2 was only just started two days ago for the tank. Do you turn your Co2 supply off at night? As I heard the plants don't take it in while the light is off so I have been putting my juwel oxygenater head on the outlet pipe for evenings. I have a Maxijet MP900 in a fish stash in the garage do you think this would help? Or should I upgrade the Juwel 260 power head for the 450 model power head which I believe is the same size and fitting just more LPH. And I was looking at root tabs and from reading gatherd that Seachem tabs were the best but what are your thoughts?

Cheers

Your right plants dont need co2 while lights are out all plants will use little oxygen at night

you should put co2 on hours before lights on and off hour before lights out when your lights are out you can use a bubbler

I have a vision 450 as well and I believe the Vision 450 and the Vision 260 are both supplied with the 1000LPH pumphead so this would not increase the flow. You can buy a 1500LPH pump head from LFS / Ebay but I think they are about 1/3 the price of a reasonable external filter so are quite pricey for what you get.

When I used the internal filter on my smaller Juwel tanks I always found the flow dropped off very quickly even with regular servicing and sponge changes.

As previously stated, even with the juwel 1500 pump you'll still have lots of dead spots in the tank including the front right as the angle of the outlet just diesnt give great flow. I found cutting it so it was actually just blowing from right to left and along the back, then by adding an additional powerhead front left to right it this gave far better flow to help with co2 and nutrient distribution too. It also saves you having to go the extra expense of an additional filter.
I eventually removed my internal anyway purely for space.
Also look at one of the all in one ferts from the sponsors if you find the ei a bit daunting. You also need to check your co2 is up to the right levels.
Hope this helps.

I've added my MaxiJet MP600 and angled it as I felt needed but TBH the flow isn't greatly improved :(. What are those round black (marine type) power heads like that Viv mentioned above as that blasts 3000Lph compared to my Maxi at 600.

I find them really good the cheap powerheads. The 3000lotre an hour one viv pointed out is great. Search eBay for aquarium powerhead and you'll see lots of them pop up. Around 7 pound Imported, or ten pound from the uk.
You can also get the in 2000litre an hour or 1200

I noticed the 3000Lph one said for upto 180l tanks which says to me the power from it isn't that great. There is a 5000Lph model for a fiver more. What are you thought I don't want a torrent of flow in the tank but a good sway from the leaves would be nice. Ohh and do they make any noise as I'm trying to keep things quiet.

Cheers

The 3000 is more than enough honestly. 5000 will just flatten your plants. I use the 3000 and my tanks the 5ft vision

Yeh just watched a 5000 in action on YouTube and thought it looked a bit much. Will get one ordered. What do you think of the Seachem Flourish tabs?
