My distraction at work

My nano tank at work. Been running for about 3 months. It's a 30cm cube with lots of cherry shrimps in and a bit to many snails.

It is my workplace. I ask my boss and his answer was a fish tank why? People have plants on their deck.
So is that a yes or a no and he did not answer so I just did it. He comes over from time to time to see how the shrimp are getting on. Most people when they see are very curious and come and have a look.
I work at a power station and I’m along in my office think that’s helps. Just the station manager has not seen it don’t know what he will say. If it looks nice sure he won’t mine it I hope.

Didcot? Nice employer lets you run a tank. I’m not sure mine would let me, given the electricity use.

Lovely Nano, Nice that they let you. Only 1 place i have worked has let me have a tank, but it had to fit inside a A4 sheet of paper, so was only one of the Azoo Picos
Good choice with the Blue Leopard Ramshorns.
They sell for a good price when you have enough to sell.

Been thinking about a fish to slow the shrimp numbers like the idea of a Siamese fighter. But don't what 1 that will eat all my shrimp. What else could I get that looks nice. That plants need a trim.

One of the small wild Betta species like Channoides would fit the bill. They’re far too small to eat adult shrimp but they’ll eat the shrimplets.

Channoides are absolutely gorgeous! I also like the look of Betta imbellis and smaragdina, although I've never kept them. I know bettas like a lot of live food, so that's something to consider. It's also definitely more ethical to go for UK bred stock, as opposed to wild caught fish - a lot of bettas are endangered in the wild due to habitat destruction & other human interference.

I also know that they may go for adult shrimps: @dw1305 had some miniscule sparkling gouramis (also labyrinth fish) that, if I recall properly, were basically mass murderers. There's a few threads here. It's also worth bearing in mind that bettas and gouramis can be prolific jumpers, so it might be best to get a glass /perspex lid.
