Any ideas on what this moss could be? I found it attached to the wall of a local pond, both emersed and immersed.

Hi all,

It looks to be somewhere near <"https://beta.floranorthamerica.org/Drepanocladus_aduncus"> or <"https://dev.floranorthamerica.org/Leptodictyum_riparium">. Moss naming is problematic, you really need an <"idea of the leaf"> (microphyll) cell structure and ideally a capsule as well.

A lot of mosses are sold by "<"Scientific" trade names">, which don't necessarily reflect their true scientific names.

It should be fine in the tank, but may grow a bit <"stringy">.

cheers Darrel

This comes from a very small, man-made pond at a friend’s house. It sees some extreme temps, 100 F (air temp) in the summer, ice on it in the winter. But I’m sure the water parameters are way different from my tanks. Will be interesting to see what happens with it. Thanks for your input!
