What causes java fern to go a grey/browny/black colour and mushy? 2 small clumps in gourami gloaming have done this.

They are growing on wood.

Are you dosing EI as dry salts? and if you are would the salts go into the tank near the Java Fern that has melted?

Yes i did dose dry salts once but not near the affected clumps.

Ph is usually between 5.5 and 5.8. The ph in my paro breeding tanks was 4.7 and i never had problems. I noticed this happening in my betta splendens boys tank too. I've also had leaves rot off the echinodorus and a stem plant too...
I am getting considerable bba on my wood too...

I've taken the lily outlet off and that has increased flow without bothering the fish too much. Think i may need to add co2 again as i don't want the tank any darker.

Thanks for the replies. It's a strange one as it is in 4 different parts of the tank, 2 in dark bits with lower flow and 2 up top right in path of flow.
