Hello from Germany

I'm keeping this thread up to date instead of creating several new threads.

Many will now turn away in horror, while others will jump for joy. I have got myself a few duckweeds. I suspect it's Lemna minor. I can now also take part in the Duckweed Index. 😉

I expect them to double within a week, if they are not eaten by the snails or shrimps.

Hi all,

Looks like Lemna minor.
I can now also take part in the Duckweed Index.
In terms of rapid leaf production and growth rate, Lemna minor is still the best duckweed for the "Duckweed Index" in most cases.
I expect them to double within a week, if they are not eaten by the snails or shrimps.
I don't think they will be eaten, growth rate should give you a pretty good proxy for nutrient content.

cheers Darrel

Are you trying to give me a heart attack! I honestly find duckweed a curse. I believe it actually likes more nutritious or in more prosaic terms, agriculturally polluted waters - run off from the fields of excessive Nitrate and Phosphate - than most of the plants we normally grow. My vote for easy bio indicator - frogbit.
