What substrate are you using? I’m using TNC complete too.My Gh10 out the tap but after 3/4 days in the aquarium it raises to 13. I find dosing tnc complete does this aswell as my substrate

I have been recommended that betta fish do well in a GH lower than 8 and KH lower than 7 so my GH and KH of 5 were perfect until it began to rise again 🙄I'm really starting to think GH doesn't really matter for much of anything, as long as levels are not zero. The same is definitely not true for KH though.
They prefer softer, less alkaline water, but they are fine in harder water, it isn't a deal breaker.I have been recommended that betta fish do well in a GH lower than 8 and KH lower than 7 so my GH and KH of 5 were perfect until it began to rise again
I have also attached a photo of the tank.
I’m only worried about the hardness because it is what caused fin issues with him before and immediately when I began softening the water, he began to heal.Hi all,

Honestly what is important is this, your tank, not any number, This is perfect and that is <"what your fish "worry" about"> @dean is / was a Betta importer.

That makes sense. You could try some Alder (Alnus) <"Picking Alder Cones"> "cones" <"Medicinal trees: The Common Alder - Aqualog.de">, but they will tint the water to some degree.it is what caused fin issues with him before and immediately when I began softening the water, he began to heal.
I just have gravel as my substitute it has lime gravel through it, hence my gh each rise, think a lot of us fail to properly research on substrates before setting up a tank 😂What substrate are you using? I’m using TNC complete too.
I’ve added four or five alder cones, I don’t mind the tannins because they’re beneficial. 🙏Hi all,

I'm a great fan of botanicals - <"Ripe for Picking: a Guide to Collecting your own Bountiful Botanicals">.
