🙂 Thanks for that Darrel...funny you should recommend that since I've already read it. The figures got me thinking - again - so I Googled "soil loss in the UK" and that was the first paper on the list. It's something I haven't thought about for over a decade. It used to be on a syllabus I taught...and I've done some research on soil erosion myself both here and in Morocco, though that was well over two decades ago.
I've lost touch with it all now, but even back then it was thought that the key to it all was the bottom up, participatory, approach (when that sort of postcolonial thinking was really in its infancy), it's staggering that they are just coming to terms with it as part of the solution.
