It's gotten much worse!
I've doubled the amount of KNO3 I got suggested here, yet the plants have still deteriorated a lot. The older, original leaves on the Hygrophila are also affected now and all the newer growth is pale. My Limnophila sessiflora has turned brown, except for the new growth tips. So, I've concluded they must be lacking Magnesium and started adding MgSO4, in a concentration according to the recipe APFUK give with their starter kit. My water has 110 mg/l Calcium, but only 11 mg/l Magnesium, so 10:1, not 4:1.
Now the Fe DTPA I ordered has finally arrived, so I've dosed that today too. I am also dosing KH2PO4, along with the KNO3, with some time between it and the Fe.
Do you think I'm on the right track?
How long do you think it will take before I start seeing the effect of the Magnesium, if that is indeed lacking?
Do you think the plants can recover?
The photos are not showing the colors completely according to real life. The Limnophila is browner than they look and the paler leaves on the Hygrophila are paler than they look (it also has some older leaves that have gradually turned brown. You can see it in the photo. Today the worst affected older leaves also have a lot of tiny green dots.).
I now have Frogbite to the tank, which is on the light green side and slow growing, but otherwise healthy.
So, fertilizer overview:
- Tropica Specialised Nutrition - 6 ml/day. My original, inadequate, fertilizer.
- Solution of 50 gr/l KNO3 and 12 gr/l KH2PO4 - 11 ml/day. Have been adding this since May 16th.
- Solution of 12 tsp/l MgSO4 - 30 ml/day. Have been adding this since May 26th.
- Solution of 50 mg/l Fe DTPA - 2,5 ml/day (Not added at the same time as the KH2PO4. I'll wait 6+ h in between them.) Started adding it today.
