Hi,
I've ordered this lamp but in black - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/tertial-work-lamp-light-green-30447221/
Went with this bulb - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/vaexer-led-bulb-for-cultivation-par30-e27-60317483/
going to be using this over a low tech bowl.
WOOOOOOOWWWWW
Are those peacock bass!!! Could you share a couple of videos.
Give the fish the bigger tank and use this one as the only panted.
Do you HAVE to use the sump? Can the other tank not use it and have the holes drilled to suit and this one have a huge external or two?
Hi Matt
Good thing is it's still early doors so it's not a chuck and start again.
I looked on your thread and I didn't find what I wanted quick enough, I'm not that into ready journals either so could you provide the following
Tank size - (I know) 60l
Filter - turn over
Lights - wattage and...
Ok so the idea is that is you need A B and C to grow taller. If A and B are in surplus but C is scarce you will still grow but just at a slower rate.
The problem being that when we look at that with our tanks we are led to believe that if
A is light
B is carbon
C are fertilisers
That will...
Sorry to go off subject
@luckyjim
I hear you when you say about all those hugs adding up. I mean there are simpler ways of doing things. Get yourself do pets at home most of not all there plants are of the easier to grow variety, use earth capped in gravel and have a small pump with no media...
Play nice children :) :) :) haha
Good to have a debate but it is always good to refer your beliefs back to the original source and I have not been into the barrreort ever...(that I recall) so don't know how strict the testing is on the idea of limiting particular nutrients with a positive...
I would recommend too. Have a look in the sponsor area of the forum and you may find there funning a promotion and have shared the code within that section.
They support the forum so we can keep it going and keep it nice clean and maintained so always good to use on of the guys that are...
Thanks for your input guys.
All I'll say for the heating cable argument is I'll have a look for some evidence to back up the idea that there seen as pretty useless and why...I'll post back with a link.
However!! It may be better simply searching the forum for the info or starting another...
Hi every one thanks for the replays
Ian M - What a great journal that one was!! Really good read if you want to learn up a bit of shrimps and water readings. Aside from the fact of how well he did scape wise, the tank it self is quite good, I. Sure the filter is up the scratch as well (lph...
Thanks for the input guys, possibly a better idea to buy the tank on its own and build the kit up then.
I do like the light that comes with it, I'll see how much replacements are but it's either that orrrr?? There seems to be so much choice with LED's now haha. I'll have to do some research on...
Hello everyone,
Looking to get a tank up and running again..been way to long.
I've always been a fan of Dennerle, the lights and filters I've used in there smaller tanks have been brilliant. I still have the small small nano they did. Believe it's 10l(tucked in the garage)
Looking for...

Co2 in the aquarium - something I don't think...
Welcome on board buddy :)
As mentioned before something known as 'ei dosing' is the way forward.
If your want to keep things simple, and tbh your plants are pretty hardy, you could simplify the whole method and get yourself to Pets at home and purchase some tropica liquid fertiliser....simply...
Hi and welcome to ukaps :)
As for the lighting, I would say it should be good BUT let someone else answer that as haven't gone that big before, nor for low hoc carpet growing. Why not try glossostigma ? It's a little more forgiving ?
I'm assuming this is your 1st tank?
Again substrate I'll...
Nice bit of narrow, or if you can find it needle Java fern across the back. I'd also be inclined to remove the bit of fern you have on the left lower part of the tank with a. Ice chunk of Anubis nana petite. Think that would really suit the tank.
Keep the moss nice and clean too, I used to pat...
Reason for the slow growth could just be a dead spot in the water flow....is there any green spot algae on the glass in that area? I always find this where I have poor flow.
What's the flow rate of the filter your using, as long as it's at least 250lph then it's ok, the standard rule would be...
why not buy one and know itll work?
tgm sell them and the price is decent, also comes with intsurctions and a bag that you fill with water and the ball to prepare it
fool proof and fair price
That's a real shame, the pictures looked so good I was determined to go this time.
Still adc do some good mini events I'm sure we could get together and contact them about doing another. I know it won't be the same but there's the more 'personal touch' that a mini event for us lot would...
Tbh ADC in London is better. It's not clinical looking like that but it has loads of substrates and sands tools glassware ferts TONs of plants including mosses masses of planted tanks too.
As I Ian said I'd be looking to add more. IMO is double what your are using.
Remember you can regenerate this stuff. So why not use what you buy? You can always regenerate and rebag if you want to set up another tank.
I'm waiting on 100ml to add to a 30l!
Once again I'm sorry for my stupid questions but is that the only dechlor you would use at all with a tank running purigen. As in water changes and recharging the purigen or is it find to use other dechlor's on your tank when running purigen. Cheers Nathan
Ahhh mate!! Well it's good for my wallet I guess I don't live too close I guess. It makes it all the better when I work local to treat myself to a little purchase.
Hi James
Welcome to the forum :)
Congratulations on that little layout, looks really good, good plant choice nice stones.
I really like the look of these tanks so all in all not a bad little tank you've got here
Lighting!!!
Well don't get to carried away with lighting, obviously the HC is...
Apart from looking pretty terrible it MAY be ok.
What compost did you add??
Would it not be a better idea to start again? Or its just a cheap top soil and you have enough.
methodical working is key to success with planted tanks
+1 for hightech.
The 305 is gonna be craaazy strong! I love going over the top on flow but I think your going to have the flow turned down quite a bit to stop from uprooting everything.
Get a little 11w fluval clip on light or at most an 18w superfish clip on an your away!!
There really now examples George. We all know how well there lights perform so nice to see the ferts coming along and the substrate.
What's the response to date with planted tanks in your LFS Duncan?
When dealing with an LFS it's harder than just creating the tank how you would, putting it on display at an attempt to sell more products, some of which you did not bother to use in your tank.
It's about showing what you can do with the fertilisers, soil and kit available to you within that...
I guess you could try n buy the old style heating mat/cable used for planted tanks.
I've never heated my DSM nano just left it covered and misted every couple of days.
Exactly what I thought. Good break down though I really struggle with wording thins like this haha.
I'd consider an RO system to rid me if the build up, it looks so nasty and even with wiping it off its just an endless battle.
To keeps things simple
You don't NEED a nutrient rich substrate but it helps I your a little slack or not as experienced with EI
Foxfish is right tbh I retract my comment previous to this as it is like a safety barrier and a little extra for the plants, sorry for any confusion
Good way to...
Sounds like your on a tight budget so why not use a cheap substrate as apposed to ADA stuff and use EI to dose the water column Yourll save a ton of money that could go towards getting a spray bar kit for your filter.
C'mon guys ease up!
Unless your keeping shrimp then I think it's all abit over kill to turn your nose up at decent kept planted tanks containing fish.
It's simple common sense among us hobbyist that if you see a half dead fish or rotting plants don't buy
Same as walking in to a butchers and...
I think you would be extremely unlikely to find fish eggs on plants, and even if you did I doubt they would survive the trip.
Fish disease is a valid point though. I've never thought about that but then again if the fish lookedhappy in there then is buy, but if the fish was trying to hang...
Ahhh that's a shame mate. Bet you was happy with your purchase, the moss I have is in a bowl when I run it up the tap to clean it out I notice a couple other Moses in there, pretty sure there's some fissidens so ill send that if I find a decent portion :)
Hello mate, I'm planting my tank later in the week and should have some left over. Only java but its a great underrated moss so your welcome to a portion :)
Did you sell it via eBay
Do you have any pics of it in your tank to show it didn't harm your aquarium? Does he have photos of his dead fish your piece of wood and a nitrate test?
If not kindly tip him Bulllllllsh**
I'd go with an all in one type deal.
Tanks like the micro habitat are cool, a little small though. Look up the aqua one nano 20 30 or 40
All in ones and very smart looking.
Tanks with the bits on show aren't always scruffy , the dennerle tanks are really smart and neat.
Stop worrying about you ph mate :)
Nothing you do other than getting an RO system will give you your desired ph level
If you really feel the need That is the way forward
Personally unless your looking to breed some rare or expensive shrimp or wild soft water fish I wouldn't bother :)
Free :) that's a great word! Why is it free for your area, just out of interest
In the tanks you have been using untreated tap water on you've been keeping what?
There should be a spam team!!! Haha
When I was more active posting I would say hello to many new members, and something Im going to get back to now you've mentioned it :) and I agree, I wouldnt expect a single penny for spending time on thenforu
Like I always do haha
We need a spam team!
A
On some forums I've joined you have to wait for a moderator to approve your account before you can Post, could be worth considering.
I know obviously that you can tell a spammer by user name but maybe by other parts of the registration form maybe a tell us about yourself box haha they'd drop...
Good point
I think the only problem I see is people that havnt got a spare tank or space to set up another/ reshape existing tank.
There should be a yearly ukaps comp, that would be good.
Or every 6months?
Just throwing some ideas out there lol someone run with it :)
If you could go for DIY co2(yeast) I'd say glossostigma, it will have a better chance, I grew mine in. 20l with DIY co2 and it carpeted like a weed, BUT i think the light could be an issue IME as I had 18w over my 20.
If you spill out some money of a goooood portion of moss, you'll get a good...
Plans sound good,
I think your going to need full on gas co2 for the hc to be honest pal, your best bet if trying to do things for cheaper I would just use a decorative sand as a base out front with a few moss rocks around the border of you MLS stone.
All sounds well mate
Bit heavy on the lighting, I'd stick with the 18w
Hc For the foreground right where's the ug going, for a 1st try it's a mega hard plant
Better of using the riccia in it's place.
Good luck mate
Good info, I done the Ada thing and had great success with it, but I always thought wouldn't cause that much agg to step right onto step 2? What's the difference between the 2?
I saw this in the copy I picked up, there cool looking tanks and worth the sub IF it was dead certain that you'd would get one, no way am I subscribing to that mag for a bunch of nets and algae magnets haha.
The offer they did a few month back was good, the acrylic all in one tanks, still can't...
go dutch ;) lol plenty of plant mass and not much if any hardscape
theres not really an answer to your question, i get what your saying but its just personal preference really, what yoy want to see when you look into your glass box of water
thats a wieeeeerd looking outflow, dont know if i like it or not haha.
it doesnt fit the bill for the 'stealth' look and probably isnt going to give as good flow at a spray bar, kind of im limbo haha
Good read this,
I had a go at the soil style tanks once, went well. I used soil in from my garden :) haha, would be cool to see some pictures of this crypt tank mate
Cheers
Nice one
Have you seen the recent display in Wetpets??
Look great, shame they don't stock many plants, decent amount of landscape stones though witch is a start, oh and they have 'saluwasi' (is that right) shrimp in the tank....there deep red with blueish white dots on them and white legs.
