from further discussions it has been established that this triple model doesnt have the option for setting the days like the master/slave units i have so, unfortunately as far as we can tell, wouldn't be so suitable for EI day on - day off dosing. :(
thought i should update this before anyone...
i had a little sniff around air pumps when i first read this post. most list psi rather then bar pressure but's there are plenty of converters online. basically the biggest air pumps for aquariums i could find for big money put out about a quarter of the pressure that the more basic of CO2 reg's...
id have to check the unit ive got in the shed. i'll get back to you. :)
the bigger trio unit might be different thou. i imagine the battery wont be used until it is a power cut so your issue is more the long term battery life. ie decaying in the housing after 5 odd years :)
They have a video showing the setting up process.
id recommend sticking in the batteries if they have that option on this model. a accidental turning off of the power or a power cut will not delete the program you put in but if i remember rightly it will reset the clock and turn "auto" off...
I'd been pondering exactly the same thing about this micro bubble argument with twinstar. obviously using electrolysis to generate bubbles might allow much finer bubbles to form. the tiny nano size of the bubbles being the important part of the science. something that might not be achievable via...
I was considering doing a similar one for the marine magic pumps as ive been using them for a few years now. the programming itself, once you work out the odd menu system, on master units i have is a touch more straightforward. set duration of pump on and time for each day after you know the...
not this one but i use the single, the dual master/slave and their adjustable ones on various tanks. the programmable unit is fiddly but does work ok. i imagine if the digital set is the same as the master version (it does look similar) then yes it will let you programe per day for each pump...
they have deffo started using more NaOH to increase the PH of tap water without providing buffering as part of the lead reduction water treatment. They used to use a lot more phosphates for the same purpose. Most authorities are doing it. It was a surprise when I found out this since i'd been...
not high flow enough really. I just did a rough test of the taps here and I was filling a 5L watering can in between 10 and 15 seconds. So that's 30 Lpm to 20 Lpm. Obviously i could turn the taps down but i'd rather have something that was rated nearer the overall output so I wouldnt have to...
Hi,
I've been doing a little sniffing around HMA filters as i'm about to take over a discus tank. The water here is scotland really isn't that nasty at all and I could probably get away with just using dechlorinator as per usual but my research has got me pondering.
Are there any single stage...
It used to be done quite a lot. As far as I understood the impeller "paddle" surface area on the higher rated impellers was larger while the mounting was the same. So it would shift more water per rotation, even thou it was going a touch slower than the full upgrade pump.
Plenty of people have...
Hi,
I'm pondering the impeller upgrade on the couple of Rio125's i'm running for a friend but i'm getting a touch confused in regard to the old Bioflow vs new Eccoflow models.
Is it just the old style pumps you can upgrade just the impeller in or also the newer eccoflow models?
Additionally...
that might work if I can make sure the spraybars and intakes would be somewhat invisible or hard to see, especially since they would basically be placed at the focal point. i could also adjust hole locations on the spray bar to give more flow down to the fronts.... might be too complex thou...
that was my first idea but you would get cancellation of flow when they meet. I could try and bounce the flows a bit I suppose. But the flow back to the intake/outtake area I think would be mostly done by the "draw" of the intake alone...
That would need about 3m of spraybars, leave a deadspot...
Hi,
I've potentially got a chance to scape an 850L L shaped tank that needs a bit of tlc.
Anyone want to give me their impressions on the best method of filter intank and outtake placement for good flow.
I'm planning dual external filters 2000 lph. However i'm wondering if placing and intake...
Hi,
I'm costing up a new tank where there is no space for an external. The Rio 180 is a good build, size and price for the space and budget.
The current filter is that built in 600 l/h fluval bioflow 3 compact thingy which i don't think will cut it in regards to flow....

on testing i've discovered the impeller is snapped, there is a leak in a valve on the top, the fuse was blown which indicates it probably ran dry then overheated. Overall i don't think it's worth finding the part to try and repair.
But i can use a powerhead in the tank to run water through the...
Well....
Kinda. It's not fully above the water. From what i've read elsewhere the airlocks and hassles come from the outflow being above the water or being allowed to let air back in to the head. If this is avoided then the only issue with air getting in is from leaks or bubbles in the tank...

Hi,
External filters are designed to be placed below the tank as most of them use gravity and a syphon effect to help move water around in some way. Unfortunately this new tank i'm helping update only has a spot for the external filter, it really needs refitting, next too and spanning the water...
Can you add more baskets onto the Biopower 160's beyond the two it has? That might be an option. Going with the principal that it's capacity not the flow.
Currently it has a Eheim Biopower 160 Internal Filter (Filtermedia volume 380 cm3). I've looked at the 240 but i'm not sure if its much of an upgrade although its volume of filter is 680 cm3.
I get what you are saying but there are zero internal filters that would have anywhere near the media volumes you are talking about. Basically you are talking about 10% of the tank being a filter. They don't exist, with the exception of this....

re: two filters, i'd just be buying a new one anyway to replace the tiny existing one. why not just buy a bigger better internal. plus there is no more socket space and no space for extensions. So id rather replace with one.
As I've mentioned, no space anywhere but inside the tank.
I'm not...
That would be amazing. I still can't get the last head to stop leaking through the starter valve after taking it apart and lubing the seal to hell and back. I'll pm you!
Hi,
I've just spent a day trying to sort out TWO ex1200's i got second hand that leak endlessly. After reading here about the hose connector unit I opened it up and PTFE taped it to hell and back. This seems to have sorted one working full filter from the various parts of two.
I'm a bit more...
to be fair the tights bag was used on a smaller nano tank version and that did not need bleaching so often so i could not say how fast the bag degraded. I was lucky to have several of the pre-made purigen bags which i opened and divided into 2 for use in my big tank.
the granules are very tiny...
i have used tights before, "double bagged".
from all i've read about this stuff i disagree with it doing anything more then advanced mechanical filtration. Its just removing fine organic waste which would in turn produces ammonia and nitrite if it was left kicking about in your tank or going...
i used it for a couple of years, i would not say it removes ferts. it is inert granules. they just catch small bits of dirt. unlike active carbon which actually absorbs ferts and toxins.
Cheers for the info. I'll give it a miss.
Thanks,
John
p.s SuperColey1 : just read your bathroom refit posts on your blog, i'm currently getting mine refitted. Not doing it myself thou. Much respect for taking that on.
Hi,
I've not done my 405 hosing yet as i'm waiting on Ed's reactor (no rush Ed btw) but i've already got some eheim syphon tubing which i am pretty much sure will fit with some hot water to soften the ends.
Best Regards,
John
