What is this moss called please?

Difficult to say, if you collected it in the UK?
It may be the true <"Leptodictyum riparium"> (below).

The moss sold commercially as <"Stringy moss"> (or Leptodictyon), is something else, but also a British native moss.

I have been given a couple of pieces out of a friends tank but he didn't know what it was this is it out of my tank, I got the other pic off google what I thought was a likeness?

It's definitely not stringy moss .. It's quite thick strands at least 5mm in diameter

Can you actually collect mosses in UK from the wild? Will they survive at the higher temps of our tanks?
