Hi all,

I'd like some M. p. "phillipine" in my tank, but have read that it does not do well in soft water.

I don't have access to my aquarium at the moment but the PH is around 6 and information regarding my tap water is as follows:

(from united utilities website)

Analysis Typical Value UK/EU limit Units
Hardness Level
Very Soft
Hardness Clarke 3.675 Clarke
Aluminium <7.85 200 µg Al/l
Calcium 16.8 mg Ca/l
Residual chlorine - Total 0.54 mg/l
Residual chlorine - Free 0.45 mg/l
Coliform bacteria 0 0 number/100ml
Colour <1.16 20 mg/l Pt/Co scale
Conductivity 152 2500 uS/cm at 20oC
Copper 0.0093 2 mg Cu/l
E.coli 0 0 number/100ml
Iron 19.1 200 µg Fe/l
Lead <0.271 10 µg Pb/l
Magnesium 2.38 mg Mg/l
Manganese 1.37 50 µg Mn/l
Nitrate 3.23 50 mg NO3/l
Sodium 14.3 200 mg Na/l

Would it be likely that "phillipine" would struggle in my tank? If so, would there be an easy fix or would I be better off getting something else? I'd opt for narrow leaved Microsorum if it meant things would work out better in the long run!

Cheers,

If you like to try 🙂 i have the Philipine, i could send you a small and very young one.. I guess the younger they are the best chances it addapts. It yet does not have old leaves long term used to the parameters, i saw mine die off a lot of older leaves when i got it.. They are relatively slow growing anyway, but makes a lot of babies rather soon. It's a very fertile plant. I got medium water at the time, it isn't realy constant from the tap. 🙂 last year had 4 and last few months i measure 11, but it did fine all the time..

That would be fantastic, thanks Marcel - if you definitely don't mind? I'm more than happy to cover postage costs etc, if you don't mind messaging me then we could sort something out.

Hi all, I'm not sure about the Microsorum, M. pteropus is fine, but I don't know about cv. "Phillipine".

You could try Bolbitis heudelotii, it likes soft water.

cheers Darrel

Cheers Darrel, I'll bear that in mind - looks nice

I do not.. Send me a pm with your credentials and i'l send you a baby asap.. @dw1305 goes for you too ofcourse🙂 if you want to give it a go don't hesitate.. It's a lovely little delicate java you definitely would enjoy to grow.. I know you grow on soft water, so if you do not know about it i asume you never had it..
