Using Stainless Steel Mesh Strainer Pre-Filter Tube

I have fluvial 207 and Eheim classic 250 I doubt if these filters have pre filter sponge. In fact I have never seen any filter that comes with pre filter sponge for the intake

I tried stainless mesh on the intake pipe of one of my tanks and found it got clogged up quite easily.
The one pictured may be ok though.
I’m not sure it would stop baby shrimp being sucked up though if you have them?

Hi all,

Eheim produce a modular one that retro fits <"on the filter intake"> - <"EHEIM Vorfilter">, but I think what @Aqua sobriquet had in mind was the "OASE Biomaster" type arrangement, where the <"sponge pre-filter is internal to the filter">, but in a separate "Easy Clean" section <"BioMaster">.

cheers Darrel
I’ve put sponge on the inlet pipes for both my Eheim Classic and my Biomaster.
The built in sponge pre-filter in the Biomaster works to some degree but detritus still gets past it into the main body somehow, or did until I fitted a sponge to the inlet pipe.

I thought this steel mesh will serve the purpose of pre filter sponge, but my educated guess says it's only good for protecting shrimp and nano fishes from getting sucked. I will stick with a pre filter sponge on the intake instead of this mesh.
