Thoughts on Nutribase and sand for low tech.

I used two large filter media bags, removed one some years later for a partial re-scap and it was simply covered with crypts and their roots had fully colonised the bag of soil. I got significant credit at my local store for the plants. Having said that the store sold the mature cryptocoryne balansae for significant prices!
 
And did you get good plant growth with mesh bags?
This tank, very overgrown and the CO2 has run out, is one inch of pond soil in the rear only with an inch or two of sand, horticultural grit and some pea gravel. No water column fertilisation tank is now over two years running.
