The road to Pont-Y-Pair - A 4 foot journey

It might help but then again dropping the intensity will not do the fast growing plants and surface plants any favours and weakened plants are algae magnets. I think your CO2 levels are too low - I aim for at least 20 ppm and I have a citric and bicarb system, for my 2 foot tank, it only lasts at most a fortnight. For a tank your size and with the plants etc., I'd go for a fire extinguisher, a 2 kg will I think fit in the cabinet if there is no shelf - but you will need a decent regulator. I use a 5 kg extinguisher on my four foot and get the best part of 10 months out of a tank, worth every penny.
Do you recommend a particular regulator/solenoid kit to fit a fire extinguisher?

CO2 Art.
I have used a range since the early 1990s, first Dennerle which was excellent, but also CO2 supermarket, and several cheap items, the latter I don't recommend for tanks with fish in them, fine for plant only tanks, but I have experienced cylinder tank dump with the cheap ones, because the gauge system wasn't genuine dual gauge/tank pressure and fine bubble control. I am very happy with my CO2 Art system, and used an inline from them for the best part of year with great success, only disconnected it because I was changing a filter and fitting a new UV and got fed up cutting and joining the tubes. I have also used 24 hour CO2 with no solenoid with no problems, just a bubble rate about a third or a quarter of a timed system, creates very stable conditions but takes careful monitoring with anything but very hard water. But I now use CO2 only when the lights are on, I have a few sensitive fish.
Good luck, hope I have been of some help.
