Silicone Hose

Problem with small screw type hose clamps as opposed to fuel line clamps, is that they have a solid, inflexible portion, which often leads to leaks when fitted to small connection, it’s also easy to damage a hose when tightening onto a sharp edge, narrow section hose clamps would help here
Personally i use narrow section cable ties, on plastic filter fittings, not to seal, but to secure the hose in place
Imho any securing device will not change the fact that when (if) the hose hardens, it’s likely to leak

There seem to be several places now selling Silicone Hoses for Aquarium use at reasonable prices.
I decided to give the ones pictured a try because they are 16/22 rather than the 16/21 offered elsewhere.

Let me know how it goes. (For some reason, I am intrigued by hosing!)

First impressions.
When I unpacked the new Silicone hose it wasn’t as supple as I expected. That was until I took the old hoses off and then the difference was immediately apparent. Removing the old hoses from my cabinet was a lot more difficult than installing the new ones due to the stiffness of the hose.
Fitting the new hose to the inlet/outlet pipes, double taps and filter was much easier, with no softening of the hose in hot water required.
I was using generic hose on my Biomaster 350 and measuring the OD it was 22mm as expected. Wall thickness was 3mm. The new hose, although listed as 16/22 was about 20.5-21mm OD with a wall thickness of 2.6mm, so a bit smaller. It fit all the old components just fine though.
For added security I attached cable ties around the hose near the fittings. I did this with the Biomaster manifold before, just to be safe.
The hoses look very nice and complement the Biomaster. Being a softer material I don’t think the outlet hose will be as potentially noisy as the old one - vibration through to where it touches the cabinet. I’ve still used the old insulation though anyway on any contact points.
I’ll leave it for a few months to see how I get on with them but I expect I’ll buy the 12/16mm for my Eheim.
It’s not until I removed the old hoses that it brought it back to me how unwieldy they are at times being so stiff.

I have been using these hoses on my biomaster. They have been great so far! Very soft and grippy. 100% opaque and excellent looks. Be carefully with sharp turns on the hose excess as it can collapse if the angle is to low.

Cheers
