Should small / nano tanks external filters also be small with equally small pipes?

So what do you learned folks think, I keep seeing exquisite Small and Nano tanks online with huge great 16mm ID plus pipes trailing away to filters the size of wheely bins. It baffles me TBH because I see Nano tanks with Nano Pumps, Nano Heaters, Nano lights in tanks with Nano fish and Nano plants etc. I cannot understand why there are not more Nano canister filters with to be blunt Nano plumbing??? I've seen the astronomical price of the imported steel bodied filters that do use small hoses, they are as beautiful as the tank creations they serve. So why is their so few more cost effective Nano filters, and why are they not more popular.

I have a 35 ltr full jungle thats been running for 3 years i think.
It runs on an Oase FiltoSmart Thermo 100. Its been really good so far. I also use the standard pipe work and have no glass Lily Pipes. I wish that I could try one of the outlets to see how goes. I put a sponge over the inlet to stop the pets getting into the filter. The shrimp love to chill on the sponge.
Great thing is that i have no filter or heater in the tank. Otherwise you could look at an Oase Hang on the back filter?
Great question by the way!
