Hi ive got two fairly big bits of wood that i want to secure together so they appear to be one piece, I am in process or re-scaping my tank so its empty at present, just getting everthing together. is there any particular glue etc. that is good to secure wood with ?
thanks
Neil

Any normal super glue that contains 'cyanoacrylate' is fine and tissue paper. I suggest cable ties too if possible and can be hidden as it can be annoying if the glue bond does break down the line

Hi all,

If you can drill holes in the wood? You can <"use dowels"> (a bit like constructing Ikea furniture). Once <"they are wet they will swell"> and lock the wood together without gluing etc.

I've come around full circle and I'm now back to using dowels as the best option.

cheers Darrel

Depending on what you are planning to construct, as Darrel @dw1305 says dowels are the way to go... Tho from personal experience, I once (super) glued a 30 cm piece of wood and a 20cm piece vertically leaning over to one side against some horizontal pieces to replicate tree trunks. At the base in between the pieces, I glued quite a lot of Anubias and Bolbitis to it.

The problem with wood and glue is, the wood will soak and soften from the outside in and the glue will come loose again. The good thing about the epiphyte plants is they grow and root fast enough to stick firmly and remarkably strong to the wood before the wood behind the glue dissolves.

Both pieces of wood stood upright in this tank for over 5 years held together by the plant mass growing to it. 🙂 It actually surprised me never would have thought this would work, but it did... Those rhizomes and hair roots are pretty strong, actually the best planted tank glue ever imho.
