Hi,just wondered if anyone had success removing glass scratches with jewellers polishing paste? :bored:Cerium oxide I think.

Yes, its something I've done alot on windscreens. The stuff we used was called jewelers rouge so probably the same. A general rule of thumb is if you can feel it with a fingernail its to deep to polish by hand. For hand polishing we poured a bit of the powder on the scratch and wet it with glass cleaner till it forms a thick paste and then polish like hell with a cork block. It helps to mark the scratch on the other side of the glass with a marker so you can keep track of where to polish.
I've never done any machine polishing but do know it can be used on deeper scratches.

Not tried...

Or this. I suspect the poor reviews are someone not using a power tools to do it.

I did have a link somewhere to someone polishing a scratch out of their tank. Lowered the water 1/2 way, and selotaped cling film on front of tank and across water to stop polish getting in the water and just polished the scratches out using a drill.

Yeah,I've searched the web an seen the link where the guy was using a drill.Think he was american. But my tank is not so large that could accommodate drill inside.(100 litres).
Thanks for the links, but I think I'm going to try e-bay cerium oxide small bag first.Cost a fiver plus free p/p.
Seen only one successful glass polishing procedure so wasn't sure what were the correct steps.
Appreciate all help! Tony
