Hi there!
I’m look for any recommendation for root tabs fertilizer. I used Easylife root sticks which seems to work well but the residue become pink mud and enter the water column when I move plants around.

I’m thinking about using about Tropica nutrient capsules. Any other good root tabs out there?

Tropica nutrient capsules

Look very simular to Osmocote. It might just be that, because osmocote is a patented product.. Never seen that stuff with a different brandname. Tropica puts it in the capsules, thus its a Tropical Nutrient Capsule, but the contents is osmocote.. The question remains, which one is it. The only hint given by Tropica is "nutrients are released by the capsules over a period of 1-2 months" But that could be related to the amount as well.

It could be

3-4M stands for 3 to 4 months.. But that is temperature related, the periode shortens at higher temps.

Another candidate is

🙂

Problem is, since its a professional product, not all Osmocote products are available in small quantities..

Tho the Osmocote tablets are offered by nurseries as fertilizer for aquatic plants.

It's a 10-11-18+2MgO+TE cone, the excact same as the Pokon Osmocote cone for Terrace and Balcony plants you might get in any garden centre.

From what I can gather most root tabs are made from Osmocote. The outer pill type layer dissolves pretty rapidly leaving the Osmocote in situ to do its stuff.
On the rare occasion that I use Osmocote I tend to use the 12-14 month slow release version. I just chuck a small handful in with the substrate. I've never needed to use root tabs.

I know some folk make their own root tabs by freezing Osmocote in small ice cubes and using that as a delivery method in to the substrate.
Obviously the ice melts and the Osmocote stays in situ where the plants need it. Not sure how effective it is but at least you know exactly what you're putting into your tank.

Topica one doesn’t seems to deliver to where I live. I’ll go with JBL tabs instead. Thank you very much!

I bought Jbl Root tabs and on the leaflet it says “Not suitable fornise in groud-covering material.”. Does it mean that I cannot insert it into the substrate?

I’m confused now.

Ferropol Root goes in the substrate.
Ferropol Tabs just go where the water flows over them to dissolve in the water.
