Hi all..... I have now set up a shrimp tank complete with 4 shrimps. The shrimps are only about 3/4" long. I was very surprised when they arrived because theywere so small... is this normal and if so (1) roughly how old are they (2) when will the achieve full size.
The food I have is baby shrimp food called Biomax which is like a powder that must be mixed with water and fed into the tank.... is this normal if not what would the forum recomend to feed them on ?
The shrimps by the way are 2 RCS and two red.
Thank you for any advice.... Frederick

3/4" long is like 19mm that is a fairly good size for a RCS.

can i just confirm the RCS is red cherry shrimp or do you mean CRS which is crystal red shrimp.

as for the food i fed mine a mixture of algae wafers, tetra prima, ebi gold, and others but this is very sparingly as they feed on waste from plants in the tank mainly, if they are 19mm long then they are a good mature age i would think as mine are all breeding at much smaller than this,

Hi jagz.... I have both...2 red cherry and two crystal reds. I must confess I thought they would be larger but if that is the full size thats ok..the tank is a 15ltr tank from the aquatic magazine (freebie) that is supplied with an airstone 24/7... no CO2 and a water change at least every week. The tank is very well planted so how may shrimps can I keep safely ?
Your help will be appreciated..... Frederick

if you build up the group of cherry shrimp they will probably breed in my shrimp nano in my sig i have 6 adult cherries and id say a good 30 offspring now probably 3 generations its a 12 ltr nano shrimp dont create much bioload i feed them once or twice a week and let them clean the tank and plants the rest of the time hope this helps a little mate

The trouble with getting big shrimp is you don't know how old they are, when you get small shrimp you know they are young and you will have them for longer so you get more for your money 🙂
I think most breeders send them out 5-10mm.
Cheerio
