Question about ph, my tap water is a ph of 7.5 but the aquarium tank water is ph 8 I have lost a few cherry barbs through the night. It’s a low tech tank with a substrate of gravel though I believe it’s has calcium parts in it. With water changes of a .5 difference have ill effect of the fish?

I very much doubt you lost your fish due to a pH of 8. I have many fish thriving at those levels, and some are considered 'sensitive' to water conditions.
I think we need more information for the community to help you. At a minimum:
a full tank shot
aquarium size in L
filter and filter media type used
how long the aquarium has been setup
your water change routine and maintenance each week
detaisl of what happened before the lead up to the deaths
My tank is the fluval flex 123L however I have the oase 350 filter running with fluval bio fx media 2 baskets. Tank was up and running start of November fishless cycle, fully clyced before my fish stock went in. I check water parameters regularly, tank is fertilised with tnc complete. And water changed 40% once a week. Nitrates are at 20ppm for the plants with great growth, feeding is twice a day in small amounts,
No fish deaths since Sunday good to know that PH shouldn’t effect.
