powerhead recommendations for noise

Hi all,

I'm planning on running a small set-up as seen similar to the pics below, hopefully with a 600lph powerhead; can anyone recommend a suitable PH?

I've had a look at the all pond solution ones, but have found them to be extremely noisy in the past.

I like the Maxijet/sponge combo in image 3, <"I've used it a lot">.

Hi Darrel,

have you had any problems with the powerhead "burning out" or similar? I gather these set-ups require a little more maintenance to ensure they don't get blocked?

Not really, I use a big sponge block (<"8 x 4" x 4" PPI20 sponge blocks"> from Rainbow Koi (they are just down the road from me)) and I just give it a squeeze out every couple of weeks.

You can see the power-head in the back right of this tank.


I've owned some of the power-heads for more than 10 years and they've been used a lot.

bit hypocritical as i slagged APS, but the reviews indicate this one to be a bit quieter (here's hoping!).

For £10 even if it is a nightmare, I guess I can save for a back-up sometime.
