Hi all,

Can somebody confirm if the Westland Sulphate of Potash is Potassium sulphate ?
The fertilizer composition says NPK 0-0-48

Chemical composition is >85% Potassium Sulphate and 3-5% Potassium Hydrogen Sulphate -- data sheet attached
But no details about the other ingredients.

Thank you in advance

Hi all,

It is.

...... Approximately 1.5 million tons (of K2SO4) were produced in 1985, typically by the reaction of potassium chloride with sulfuric acid, analogous to the Mannheim process for producing sodium sulfate ...... Potassium hydrogen sulfate (also known as potassium bisulfate), KHSO4, is readily produced by reacting K2SO4 with sulfuric acid.
It is just the production process, if you have some (~10%) potassium chloride (KCl) "impurity" left it doesn't matter for fertiliser purposes, so it would be extra expense to purify it any further.
The fertilizer composition says NPK 0-0-48
That is as <"N : P2O5 : K2O">, so 48 x 0.83 = ~40 % K.

dw1305: many thanks for advice.
My only option for K2So4 is either import form UK (very high price + VAT + customs fees) or buy it form local garden shop for very cheap about 5-7euro for 1.5kg.
