Just found this in my propagator. It is nothing I have added myself.

Hi all,
Matt it is a fern (sporophyte). A fern spore has landed in the tank, germinated into a prothallus (gametophyte generation), which has grown and then formed archegonia and antheridia. Because the tank atmosphere is damp, the motile spores have been able to swim through a film of moisture from the antheridia and fertilised the archegonia. The zygote then grows out as the sporophyte plant we call a fern.

You can't tell which fern yet, but the ones I get most frequently are Male Fern (Dryopteris filix-mas) and Broad-Buckler Fern (Dryopteris dilitata), and from what I remember the young sporophyte of Broad-Buckler Fern looks very much like that.

cheers Darrel

Some kind of fern!
- the spores of ferns are very, very light and very, very small - making them airborn to allmost everywhere. Ypur propagatet just happens to be a superb environment for the spore to germinate.
It is not an aquatic species, though.

Would I be crazy to suggest it may be Parsley?
Looks very similar to mine outside.

No, it is definitely a fern. There is a fern called <"Parsley Fern"> (Cryptogramma crispa), but it isn't that one.

I have fern that have "seeded" into a lot of the pots of house plants and they are mainly Dryopteris spp. The other fern I get quite frequently is a Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum spp.), but they are obvious from their first fronds.

@KarthikC has some <"ferns growing in his emersed set ups"> as well.
Been away from the forum for a while. Some updates.. 🙂
Anubias Nana, Anubias Afzeli, hair grass, **some strange, tiny plant** and ferns:

It is the fern which Darrel is referring to. The new leaves that are growing have the signature "fern" style.

Cheers,

Karthik
