I'm sure this has been asked before, but could osmocote be used sparingly as an additive under a soil substrate without any major effects to water chemistry?

😕

OK cool how much do you use I was thinking just a small amount at the bottom of the tank, soil layer "dusting" osmocote then top layer?

I went for Osmocote, then soil, then upper layer. I figured any nutrients would be taken up by the soil to be fed to the plants. It also safeguards against any potential problems (not that there are any...)

I went for a fine scattering. I've had a few balls escape with digging cichlids being in the tank. They pick at them occasionally, but don't eat them.

About 1 dessert spoon per square foot of tank base for me. First thing in, then the substrates.

Thanks for all the replies people 🙂
