Hi some frogbit I ordered for my new half barrel pond arrived yesterday and tbh it looks really sad, looking for advice on how to rescue these plants.

Roots are constantly floating forcing the leaves into the water and no matter how often I try to sit the leaves on the water they just capsize again.

Oof, those look sad indeed. Honestly I would just leave them sort of like this, in a very calm container with water that has some nutrients in it. I see new leaves forming, so if the plants are still alive, they can recover from it gradually. I wouldn't remove the old leaves since the plantmass is so low. Make sure they get decent light but dont let them get cooked.
Try not to disturb the plants until they have put put some good leaves and roots.

Right, I'm slightly annoyed they got shipped like that, it's like someone was fishing out the worst plants to throw and decided to sell em instead...

Hi all,

They aren't of saleable quality, I'd definitely ask for your money back.

All you can do I think. I've just posted all my spare plants (I've noticed (since Covid?) that I get a lot more requests for them), but I'll have some more spare in ~ 2 weeks.

cheers Darrel

I feel you, they dont look good and dont even have any good roots to fall back on.
I assume this is Hydrocharis frogbit (?) and not Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum) that we usually keep in our temperate/tropical aquariums.
I dont have a lot of pond experience (well, none), but plants are plants and I think you may be able to nurse them back to health, but it wouldnt be uncalled for to ask for a refund as these are not exactly in "plug and play" health.

Just a follow up on this.

All the plants have a new leaf shooting out above the water, so it looks like they may recover, I did contact the seller and got a refund this morning though as they are really bad quality, investing it in more duckweed.

Glad to hear you could work it out with the seller and that the plants are recovering... It's still beyond me why they would send you such terribly plants in exchange for money. It's one of those on-line things I guess... if a customer would have walked into a brick and mortar store there is no way a customer would have picked those plants - they know that, and should act accordingly when picking plants to ship out. I've received my fair share of bad plants from online sellers over the years.

Cheers,
Michael
