My pre filter sponge

I bought these filter sponges to be used as pre filters for my canister filters. Are these sponge right, or will it clog the filter within a week? I made the mistake of not doing the research and after buying it I got into the dilemma of coarse filter vs fine filters.

Hi all,
Are these sponge right, or will it clog the filter within a week?
They look a bit fine (high PPI number, like "PPI 45", or even <"PPI 60">), so they will clog fairly quickly. I'd try one and see what happens

I started with <"finer grades of foam"> (and <"smaller pre-filters">), but eventually I just settled on <"big coarse foam"> (PPI 15 or PPI 20) blocks. I use the same ones on <"both power-heads"> and <"external filter intakes">.

I like large pre-filters because I can't always maintain the tanks, and <"I'm incredibly lazy">, so it gives me some tank maintenance <"wriggle room">.

This is @Kalum's <"Baby steps - (Caridina shrimp tanks)"> a much neater job.

cheers Darrel

I would prefer large pre-filters too, if my tank had enough depth. I recently saw a video, in YT, bigger the filter, more surface area for beneficial bacterias.
