Hi All,
After lurking / gathering information on here for the past couple of months in advance of setting up my new planted 90 litres tank, here is my attempt at a journal to monitor progress and also to stimulate any criticism and get the best looking tank I can achieve (with all your expertise).
Not entirely new to fishkeeping, I had a salt water cube previously around 12 years ago which crashed and failed after going on holiday and I've more recently also set up a 40cm cube tank for my daughters bedroom which had plastic ornaments and a couple of fish until she got bored of it and wanted the desk space for make up and mirrors.
For some reason I recently caught the bug again and felt the urge to start up a brand new tank in the living room and the only place I could squeeze a tank was a 70cm gap so bit the bullet and bought the Superfish 90 litre scaper tank which comes in at 60cm long.
Done plenty of reading on here to gather as much knowledge as possible and also watched countless You tube videos from MD fish tanks, MJ aquascaping amongst many others.
The tank was set up running with the Superfish LED light unit that comes with the tank and also the Superfish 200 Hang on back filter. Also bought a Fluval T100 heater.
After weeks of deliberation, I went with 1 inch of soil substrate called Beaver premium aquatic soil, topped with 2 inches of Limpopo black sand.
I initially planted on Day one with Monte carlo carpet, Ludwigia mini super red, Ludwigia palustris Green, Limnophila Sessiliflora, Echinodorus Martii and Alternanthera Reineckii all purchased from Aquarium Gardens.
Also running Co2 via fire extinguisher set up with in tank diffuser which turns on 1 hour before lights switch on and turns off 1 hour before lights switch off.
The support stand you see in the photos below is from Next so obviously isn't solely designed for the weight of fish tanks however i have added a heavy duty internal support frame which i tested with more than enough weight prior to adding the tank and water. I was restricted with purpose built aquarium stands that would fit into the space and none of them passed the appearance test carried out by the wife. And so the reason why i went with the Next unit which matches the other furniture in the living room
The photos below are from Day One which was 30th of January.
Any question or criticism, please fire away. Thanks for reading if you got this far.
