Hi everyone!
After a quick chat with @shangman , I thought it made sense to create a guide for growing macroalgae in saltwater aquariums. I get tons of questions about it, so why not share it in one place right here on UKAPS? Macroalgae aquariums are not new by any means, but are new to many hobbyists and is quickly picking up steam - even amongst those who may have once shunned it. Macroalgae is a fun and accessible way to keep saltwater aquariums and I'm happy to help!
Although this forum is freshwater focused, macroalgae seems to tickle the minds of freshwater enthusiasts because of its likeness to plants, but the 'jump' to saltwater can often seem intimidating. The aim of this guide is to hopefully allay those fears and give some comprehensive information from my perspective. This is by no means the only way to do it, I'm simply sharing what has worked for me over the last few years.
I will add to this guide over the coming weeks, when time and energy permits! I'm hoping it can also become a discussion for those interested and those with questions.
These are the sections I'll cover:
1. Introduction to Macroalgae
2. Lighting - What's best for macroalgae growth?
3. Equipment - What is needed (and not needed)?
4. Water Parameters - How to condition your water for success!
5. Maintenance - How much effort does it really take?
6. Creativity - How to make macroalgae work for you!
Let's dive in!
