Product Review Living with an Oase Biomaster

Anyone got any feedback on the new ones? I bought a mk1 and returned it because it was just so noisy compared to the eheim experience 350 it should replace.
I'm back on the hunt for a silent, low wattage, high turnover filter. Has anyone ever stumbled on a decibels chart for common filters?

The quietist filter I’ve had to date was a Tetra EX400. It was almost silent, once in the cabinet you couldn’t hear anything from outside. Sadly the original impeller broke and the new replacements was very noisy. I also have an EX 600 and that was also very quiet. Sadly that started to leak and even the replacement from Tetra didn’t cure the problem. I’m a big fan of the Eheim Classics but they’re not as quiet as they used to be when they were made in Germany. I’m currently running a Classic 350 though and a Biomaster 350 (on a 250 casing) and the Biomaster is less noisy.
I don’t think the noise would be so much of a problem if there weren’t so many gaps around the doors etc in the furniture in which they’re both housed.
If/when I get a new tank I’m going to address that problem right from the start and also ensure it’s well braced to prevent any excess vibration that can cause drumming.

I must admit, the scaperline cabinets do cut out a fair bit of noise. Perhaps this was a design consideration from Oase knowing some of their filters run a little loud! 😀

I made my own cabinet many years ago and the doors overlapped the carcass so the gaps were very small. I’ll try and do this again if I get a new tank.

I can agree with that 100%, seem to remember they had pretty good flow rates too. I don’t remember any leak issues with the Tetra external l had.
Some of these other manufacturers need to incorporate heaters and prefilters into their externals.

I’m not so sure about the pre-filter, but adding a space to include some sort of heater is a good idea.

I’ve seen pictures of the old Eheim Classic canisters with a built in *heater but I don’t know how well they worked?

One sugar or two?
Looks like a kettle element with a built in thermostat, much like my pond profiheater element, all be it a different shape.
