Last year I was doing some design work for Scottish Water on one of there Wastewater sites near Edinburgh. Part of the work consisted of replacing some humus de-sludge pumps that were installed in 1992. The pumps were drawing sludges from the bottom of 4 large humus tanks (large settlement tanks that are placed after biological treatment allowing for sludges to settle and be pumped away).
What was interesting for me atleast was the size of these peristaltic pumps, a little bigger than the dosing pumps typically seen in our aquarium cabinets.
Today you would generally not utilise such a pump for this application. Peristaltic pumps are still widely used however their application is for chemical dosing and closely resemble what we would use for aquarium dosing.
