I've had my 2 e1501's for over a year now and have always struggled to remove the hose connector from the head unit when maintenence is required, i've tried using vasesline on it but it doesn't seem to help much, last week it took me about 30 minutes of steady pressure and many rude words before it popped out, there seems to be a lot of suction keeping it in to and can't seem to find any problem with regards to worn parts once it's out to clean and check.

Has anyone else found this troublesome or can suggest another product rather than vaseline?

I wouldn't use Vaseline on the O-rings as petroleum products will attack the O-rings. You need to use silicone based products, I have some of this..

Also I don't have any issues removing the hose connector block. I ensure the valves are both in the closed position, lift opening handle/latch and pipes and attachment just lifts out. Easy peasy. In fact so easy I now open the pump at each water change to remove and fish fry swimming around and rinse the coarse inlet filters.

When replacing the pipes, I pre-prime the filter by pouring water in to the hose outlets, then connect the pipes & attachment, that way I don't have to mess around with the priming the filter once the filter is installed in the cupboard. Just turn on and off a few times to expel air, job done. I use a cut down coke bottle, as a funnel to get water into the filter outlet/inlets.

My e701 connector can be a little difficult to needs slight rocking to get it to come off, there is maybe less suction resistance being a smaller model though, it maybe just me but opening and closing the lock lever a few times appears to help.
By contrast my eheim 2213 will refuse to come apart unless a tap is opened.
An alternative to Vaseline could be silicone grease (ian_t beat me to it) I have a tube of this at home but not used it on any filters.
