Is it really true about Chinese Algae Eaters?

Is it really true that a golden algae eater, which is actually a Chinese algae eater starts sucking slime coat of other fishes, once it grows up?

On the Wikipedia entry, the relevant section has been flagged as “citation needed” however the idea is repeated frequently online. I’ve never kept them.

Regardless of the truth or otherwise of this, they grow nearly a foot long, so are not suitable for most home aquariums.
