How to clean algae from dragonstone

Hello everyone,

Hope you're well and having a good week so far.

I have a 180L tank and I am on cleaning mode and re-scape mode. I had an algae problem, so I took the rocks out and left them in a bucket with water and H2O2, for 3 days. I took it out and started brushing it with a toothbrush brush BUT I found it nearly impossible to fully clean it to how I got them. So my question is - how clean does it have to be so that when I put the rocks back in the tank the algae does not grow back?

I am just afraid that the algae that was on it will just revive.

If you don’t have any, then this won’t be a useful suggestion but scuds are absolutely outstanding at cleaning algae off anything. They’re fast & they don’t miss anything. I raise them as live food & they work hard cleaning off plants & decor that happen to get algae growing them. As best I can tell, algae is their all time favourite food.

So I see. I’ve no clue what species mine are but they are the very best algae cleaners that exist, I think.

They just can’t be trusted with mosses, unless one is extremely vigilant.

Soon as the algae peters out the moss is on the menu. Again, based only on personal experience, it seems that moss is a very close second to algae as a favourite food. They can reduce it to something that very closely resembles a tangle of sewing thread in next to no time 🙂.
 
I would say this isnt algae but discoloured stone.
A powerwasher might remove the marks.

Hey guys! Thank you very much for the help!

It took me some time to reply, but I spent the whole of yesterday re-scaping the tank and was a little tired afterward. I put the rocks in, and all was good. I see some algae growing already, but I am doing another WC tomorrow. I am currently on a x2 50% WC a week for four weeks and tomorrow I will brush off the very, very few algae I see.

Yeah, I agree. Something I didn't have because I was afraid of them outgrowing in the tank but right now I have 7 Nerite snails in.

I honestly never heard of them until now 😳 I am not sure they would survive with the Discus?

I don't have one, unfortunately. But once in they kind of add character hehe
 
Also, I have started a Journal, this way I can have all info in one place 🙂
