So I’ve got a super fish scraper 90 with an Oase bio master 250 with a 350 head .
I’m going to attempt a reef tank with a couple of Clowns and some shrimp .
What is the best way to set up the filter with regards to filter media and could someone recommend a reasonably priced light .
Cheers

Hi Scouse,

Canister filters and reef tanks aren't great partners. You really want a sump with a protein skimmer and/or a refugium to export nutrients.

If I was using a cannister filter I would use a very fine pre filter sponge and clean it very very frequently. Inside the filter I would keep just sponges. I would invest heavily in mature live rock, that will do most of the filtration and a good wave maker if you plan to keep corals.

Regarding lights, I can't help you much, last time I kept reef tanks I was using Metal Halid lamps.

Good luck

Son went down Marine setup with a planted tank setup and he did quite well with it.

Involved lots of water changes and setups with buckets and floss etc.
So it can be done.
We did fit a sump early this year and a protein skimmer

He does report is so much easier to keep the parameters spot on with less effort, less water changes and coral looks better plus tank can have more inmates
