Goldfish Waste

My Granddaughter's goldfish tank is "planted" with bunches of Elodea. The two fish in there produce a fair bit of waste, is it best to syphon out the larger bits on a daily basis, the stuff that falls on to the gravel or leave it to decompose in the tank?

Most of it does get removed during the weekly water changes, I just wondered if it was of any benefit to the plants for the few days it was in there.

It will benefit the plants, but check out for nitrates and organic matter build up in the substrate over time. Those fishes produce a lot of waste, probably more than the plants can handle, especially when they grow bigger.

Perfect for Basil and Parsley etc.. :)
