Nothing has changed apart from the temperature. I had an air line in the bucket.

High temperature the killer, do you think?

I would say yes to the temp spike. I keep my Daphnia barrels in partial shade, and find that helps alot.

checked my mozzie/bloodworm barrel and that has hardly any in it. temp is over 32 in that.

Nothing has changed apart from the temperature.

I agree with Gill it is almost certainly temperature, Daphnia actually have quite high water quality requirements, and really warm water will become de-oxygenated, even if the temperature isn't high enough to fry their enzymes.

Mosquitoes preferentially lay their eggs in shady conditions, so buckets are best in the shade.
