From reef to aquascape

I’m Going to go with the jbl lava rock substrate stuff and then tropica aquarium soil, is it worth using any additives to the bottom later etc?
Just about to order the last bits to finishing the hard scape so want to make sure I have the foundations for a long and healthy tank.
