I bought this nice Eriocaulon parviflorum recently.
Now it's producing a lot of flowers. I've had already some smaler Eriocaulons flowering here, but that's mostly just a few flowers. Not like 20 or more at a time.
What should I do ? Remove them in benefit of the plant itself, or just let it be so it hopefully set seeds ?

Does this species also make adventive plants on the flower spikes ?

Nice one.. Most Eriocaulons are perrenial plants that means, lives longer than 2 years. The tropical Ericaulons in the trade are most likely perennial.. 🙂 I recently red a journal of somebody growing several Eriocaulon sp for over 2 years now and not yet managed to make them flower. But looking at the pic bellow it seems your spike tips could develop adventive growth like the one bellow. This guy reports that he missed to notice if it ever had a flower before on this spike. He also reports adventive growth from the rhizome, but the mother rhizome died after cutting it off.

Following this. It would be amazing if the rosette survives this. The energy to produce this many flowers would be huge.

some Erio' s can actually generate new growth after massive flowering (probaply from the nodes under the flowering part). Some are quite good at it.
- I was, like Darrel, convinced otherwise but have now seen this repetedly in some of the Erio's I have been testing. They usually take a "time out", before re-growing from original rosette after an intense flowering, though.
I can't give any species names, sorry, since these plants are not professionally ID'ed.

This is beautiful.

Where did you purchase this?

OR where can this plant be purchased?

Thanks for the info, I will take the risk and let the flowers remain.
Hopefully they'll make adventive plants and the rosette stay alive.

@ Alex, I ordered it from Aquasabi, one of the forum sponsors.
Together with Cryptocoryne sivadasanii, Elatine hydropiper and Hygrophila sp. brown.

All great looking plants, fast shipping (to Belgium) and excellent packing with a tempex box inside a cardboard box.

The plant is still making more flowers...
Till now there's no growth of adventive plants noticeable on the flowerheads.
