so today i noticed one of my amanos was berried and i know i wont be seeing any babies as my water is most definitely not right for breeding them......... i was just curious as to why they would try.
surly they know that they cannot breed in the environment they are in? No?

No, they actually do NOT know their offspring is never going to materialise. As everything in nature, they breed because they "have to". I am surprised that you are surprised, really...:) They will be going berried all the time. Mind you - in the nature, they do get berried and release their young in freshwater. It is just their natural habitat provides the routes for the young to get to some brackish water. So, all this is perfectly natural, no worries and no surprises!

cheers nat i figured as much and not really surprised i was just wondering i guess:) poor little things
