Background

Do you think i would be able to plant on this background? I have toyed with the idea of removing it but given the amount of silicone it has attaching it i thought i could maybe plant onto it and cover the unsightly algae. Sadly i bought the tank with the background in situ.
I believe it is made of polstyrene.....

What would you consider planting on it?

Anything that you like the look of and that will grow epiphytically.

Java Fern, Moss, Anubias, Bolbitis heudelotii, Hygrophila pinnafitida? for starters.

If you remove it silicone is dead easy to remove 100% from glass, I did it with some left over silicone blobs on back on my tank.

1. Cut as much silicone as possible using a sharp knife and/or decorators scraper.

2. Apply sealant remover.

3. Remove sealant.

4. Clean with meths/IPA. Done.

5. Add fish..😀

Yes. They use it a lot for aquarium/vivarium back-grounds.
