I choose the temp that's appropriate for the livestock.....

As low as possible for the livestock.
My heater is set at 22* but the tank is still reaching 24* by the end of the photoperiod

I only use heaters if the fish in the tank require heating. My house temperature is about 18C and the water in the tanks in my house tends to stay around the 21-22C range unless its a hot summer. At the moment I don't have any tanks with heaters in.
